Alan Bray on Competing at FCI and Representing Team GB
In the lead up to the FCI competition 18th to 21st July hosted at Sentower Park, Belgium we asked Alan if there were any special preparations underway for him and fabulous Ticket.
Alan said:
In the run up to major international competitions we do less shows and pick and choose the competitions we compete at only entering where it will be complementary to what we expect to face
Competing on British and FCI courses is totally different and demands many more skills for both dog and handler and there’s respecting a whole set of different competition rules so we constantly train these as you can't just do this last minute. A bit like preparing for exams and revising previous papers we find out who is judging and then study their previous courses, set them up and work our dogs over them to try to avoid surprises on the day.
Our dogs are physically maintained by a lovely lady Sue Julian, Canine Massage Therapist and Fitness Trainer who works magic with them. Louise takes them every month and just before international competitions for a fitness MOT to ensure they don't have any underlying injuries or niggles because remember they can't tell us! Well not in words but they do with their performance and movement.
To keep them competition ready and in peak fitness we continue to supplement every day with the Ace Canine’s brilliant FlexSprinkle, Trimega and Epimmune.
Additionally, there is the little matter of keeping me fit, so my running exercises continue plus of course I take Ace Canine’s i- Flex which is brilliant for my joints. Having played semi-professional football and cricket for 35 years the old joints need help now, I'm 66 but still going! We don't ever stop training completely as this is detrimental to the dogs and me, years of football and cricket have taught me that you go rusty quickly when you stop.
