Settlers is a calmer, but not a sedative
OTHER THINGS YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW
INGREDIENTS
Magnesium is provided in the form of a “chelate” linking it with a natural amino acid. This gives greater absorption and even more importantly, this kind of compound can cross cell wall barriers more effectively.
This feature makes the magnesium in Settlers more assimilable in cells including those of the central nervous system. We use two different compounds: magnesium taurate in the capsules and magnesium aspartate in the liquid. They are both similarly effective but the latter has better solubility properties to allow a liquid version of Settlers. Both forms have numerous research and clinical findings to support their effectiveness and safety.
Settlers Capsules;
each capsule contains 500mg magnesium taurate with no other ingredient. The capsule shells are vegetable cellulose.
Settlers Liquid:
1ml liquid contains 500mg magnesium aspartate hydrochloride, purified water and potassium sorbate preservative. Potassium sorbate is a natural preservative found in fruit.
FEEDING
The recommended amount of Settlers to feed is based on your dog’s bodyweight in kilos and is one capsule or 1ml of liquid for every 10kg (22lbs) of bodyweight.
For the first three days give half the recommended daily amount to allow the dog’s system time to adjust and avoid ‘funny tummy’ troubles then increase to the whole amount advised.
If convenient split the daily ration and give morning and evening with food to keep magnesium levels topped up throughout the day. After this adjustment period it is safe to feed increased quantities when anticipating particularly stressful events such as moving to a new home, a stay in kennels, a new addition to the family, competition etc.
Some situations eg travelling, showing etc may necessitate giving settlers outside of normal mealtimes. This is OK.
Whether you use Settlers in liquid or capsule form, the decision will be influenced perhaps by how well your dog will accept a ‘pill’ but to make your life easier each bottle of the liquid comes fitted with an adaptor and a graduated syringe.
All of this information is simply intended as a starting point and eventually you may feel that your dog needs some adjustment to achieve optimum benefit.
Can my dog have Settlers with prescription medication or a special diet
Settlers is safe to give with any prescription medicine. Settlers does not trigger any known allergies and is safe with all known commercial diets.
Can you give Settlers every day?
Settlers can be given every day if your dog is anxious of life in general. For dogs that have specific triggers then, with time, you may be able to feed Settlers in anticipation of an event.
Can my dog work or compete on Settlers?
Yes, dogs can and do continue to work and compete while taking Settlers. Some high drive dogs may indeed perform better when taking this supplement. Agility legend Alan Bray has worked his dogs at the top level with great results.
When is the best time to give Settlers?
The best time to feed Settlers is when it is most convenient for you and your dog. Ideally we advise keeping levels as even as possible throughout the day eg if you feed twice a day, give some with or even better, soon after each feed.
How quickly do Settlers work?
How quickly dogs will respond to Settlers will depend on the individual dog. and his/her arousal level. No two dogs will react exactly the same way to any calmer on the market. We advise that you monitor and record your observations and make adjustments as necessary.
My dog has allergies is this suitable?
Yes certainly. There are no known allergens that interact with Settlers. Therefore it is safe with all special diets.
How can I get assistance if I need it?
